Ahmedabad, 21 September, 2011 Three large size Jain idols were today morning found lying four ft under the ground in Shantinagar society located in Ahmedabad's Usmanpura area. The idols are 7.4 ft tall. They were discovered while excavation work was going on in a plot to construct an apartment. One of the idols has been identified as Adinath's through 'lanchhan'(symbol) of 'vrishabh' depicted. Another two idols are yet not identified due to lack of clarity about 'lanchhan' symbol. People of Jain community were gathered in large number to have darshan of idols. They were collecting soil from the body of idols to make lucky balls. State Archaeological department Superintendent Shri Y.S.Rawat sent an archaeological team to the venue. The team took measurement and noted down the details of the idols. According to Shri Rawat, the idols are not seeming older than about 100 years. The idols were pulled out to ground level by crane in the afternoon. The idols are in 'khandit' state as they are hit by excavator vehicle. Their noses are cut which show possibility of vandalism in past.
